HC Deb 11 April 1889 vol 335 cc213-4
MR. LAWSON (St. Pancras, W.)

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how often the powers of compulsorily taking land and houses for police stations and offices under "The Metropolitan Police Act, 1886," had been exercised; and whether the police buildings in the Metropolitan Police District were erected on freehold or leasehold tenure?

*THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. MATTHEWS,) Birmingham, E.

I am informed by the Receiver of Police that compulsory powers have been exercised in six cases, and four cases are at present pending. The freehold properties now number 121. There are 93 either held on leases or annual tenancies.
