HC Deb 11 April 1889 vol 335 c230
MR. WALTER M'LAREN (Cheshire, Crewe)

I wish to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether the Criminal Law Amendment Act of 1855 has been adopted in the Channel Islands; and, if not, what are the reasons which have prevented its adoption?

MR. MATTHEWS

No, Sir; this Act has not been adopted in the Channel Islands. The Act does not in terms apply to these islands. In Guernsey the Governor in 1885 called the attention of the Royal Court to the Act, and a Committee was appointed to consider it, but has not as yet reported. The Governor of Jersey does not inform me of the reasons which have delayed or prevented its adoption in that island.
