HC Deb 02 April 1889 vol 334 c1395
MR. BRADLAUGH

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether the District Inspector of Factories and the Home Office had received complaints of repeated breaches of the Truck Act at Barrowford, near Burnley; and, if so, on what dates; and, whether any, or what, action had been taken on such complaints?

*MR. MATTHEWS

There has been a complaint to the Home Office from one person alleging breaches of the Truck Act at Barrowford. The letter containing the complaint was not sufficiently clear as to the facts to justify an action; and I have directed further inquiries.

MR. BRADLAUGH

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that previous complaints have been made to the District Inspector of Factories, and that the time for imposing fines—namely, three months—has nearly elapsed?

*MR. MATTHEWS

I was not aware of the lapse of time.
