HC Deb 27 November 1888 vol 331 c326
MR. O. V. MORGAN (Battersea)

asked the Vice President of the Council whether he was aware that yesterday electors who reached Grayshott Road, Battersea, before 7.30, and Millenson Road, Battersea, before 7.45, were unable to record their votes; whether it was not the duty of the collectors to receive the votes of all who were inside the polling booth before 8 o'clock; who was responsible for the arrangements; and, whether future elections would be properly conducted?

THE VICE PRESIDENT (Sir WILLIAM HART DYKE) (Kent, Dartford)

, in reply, said, the Education Department was not responsible for the conduct of School Board elections. If the order directing the election had not been properly carried out, the matter might be the subject of a future legal proceeding, and it would not be right for him to express any opinion on the subject. It was the Returning Officer who had the conduct of the elections.
