HC Deb 27 November 1888 vol 331 cc314-5
MR. HENNIKER HEATON (Canterbury)

asked the Under Secretary of State for the Colonies, Whether he is yet in a position to inform the House what decision has been come to regarding the protest of the Premier of Queensland against the appointment of Sir Henry A. Blake as Governor of that Colony?

THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE (Baron HENRY DE WORMS) (Liverpool, East Toxteth)

I have to inform the House that Sir Henry Blake has stated to Her Majesty's Government that, after what has passed, it would be extremely unpleasant to him to undertake the Government of Queensland, and has requested to be relieved of that appointment. Her Majesty's Government have, under the circumstances, agreed to this request.

THE LORD MAYOR OF DUBLIN (Mr. SEXTON) (Belfast, W.)

May I ask what is to be done with that gentleman now?

MR. SPEAKER

Order, order!
