§ MR. BAUMANN (Camberwell, Peckham)asked the Under Secretary of State for the Colonies, Why Sir John Pope Hennessy has not returned to Mauritius; and whether he has been granted extension of leave, and for what reason; and when he is going back?
§ THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE (Baron HENRY DE WORMS) (Liverpool, East Toxteth)It had been arranged that Sir John Pope Hennessy should return on the 30th of October; but he has been granted an extension of leave, on the ground that his presence is necessary at the trial of an action at law to which he is a party, and which has been set down for trial in this month. He is going back by the mail steamer which leaves Marseilles on the 1st of December.
