HC Deb 10 May 1888 vol 325 c1804
MR. FINLAY (Inverness, &c.)

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, Whether he will consider the possibility of making provision for loans of public money to Volunteer corps to meet the expense of erecting drill halls and other buildings for regimental purposes?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (Mr. GOSCHEN) (St. George's, Hanover Square),

in reply said, as at present advised, he should not be prepared to extend the public credit to the purposes to which his hon. and learned Friend alluded. He was alarmed at the vast number of objects for which the public credit was now being continually invoked, and it would be with great regret that he would add to their number.
