HC Deb 04 May 1888 vol 325 c1362
MR. MOWBRAY (Lancashire, Prestwich)

asked the Secretary to the Treasury, Whether it is a fact that certain Friendly Societies registered under the Friendly Societies Act are seeking to become converted into Companies; and, whether, if converted into Companies, they will or will not be subject to the provisions of the Life Assurance Companies Act?

SIR HERBERT MAXWELL (A LORD of the TREASURY)(who replied) said (Wigton)

The Chief Registrar informs me that he has heard unofficially of two cases answering to the description in the Question. The second paragraph, however, should be addressed to the President of the Board of Trade.
