asked the Secretary of State for for the Home Department, What were the numbers of women and of girls (as defined in Parliamentary Paper No. 163, of Session 1887) employed in 1887 under "The Coal Mines Regulation Act, 1872?"

The number of females under 13 years of age employed in coal mines during 1887 was two; between 13 and 16 years, 259; and above 16, 3,922—making a total of 4,183.
