HC Deb 11 June 1888 vol 326 c1696
DR. CLARK (Caithness)

asked the Postmaster General, Whether he intends to arrange for an acceleration of the down London day mail in the new contract with the Highland Railway Company?

THE POSTMASTER GENERAL (Mr. RAIKES) (Cambridge University)

If an acceleration of the down London day mail can be effected without additional expense, I shall be willing to assent to it. There would be no sufficient grounds for expending further sums of public money in effecting further postal improvement in a district already so well provided.

DR. CLARK

asked, if it was the case that the Caithness contract expired in a month or two; and if, in the new contract, the right hon. Gentleman intended to allow letters to remain three hours at one station and another hour at Inverness?

MR. RAIKES

said, that in making the new contract he should endeavour to effect any improvement he could in the public service.
