HC Deb 07 June 1888 vol 326 c1406
MR. SUMMERS (Huddersfield)

asked Mr. Solicitor General, Whether he is correctly reported in The Hampshire Advertiser, of May 22, as having said, in answer to a question put to him at a public meeting at Southampton, that— If the ratepayers wished to spend more than the 20 per cent raised on the licences in compensation they could do so; but in that case they would spend other money at their disposal, whether from rates or otherwise"?

THE SOLICITOR GENERAL (Sir EDWARD CLARKE) (Plymouth)

I see nothing in the quotation in the hon. Member's Question to make me doubt that it is an accurate report of the statement I made.
