MR. SUMMERS (Huddersfield)

asked the President of the Board of Trade, Whether his attention has been called to the recent railway accident at Hyde Junction, in which four persons were killed, and many seriously injured; whether his attention has been drawn to the evidence adduced at the inquest, showing that the accident might have been averted if there had been communication cords between the carriages of the train, and to the recommendation of the jury that there should be a communicating cord attached to every passenger train, whatever distance it might travel; and, whether he will take into consideration the advisability of proposing legislation in accordance with this recommendation?
