HC Deb 24 July 1888 vol 329 c326
MR. D. A. THOMAS (Merthyr Tydvil)

asked the Postmaster General, If he can state the result of the inquiry by the Departmental Committee into the conveyance of letters by rail which have not passed through the post; and, what steps are being taken to remove the inconvenience to the public caused by the instruction to Railway Companies to discontinue the practice of carrying letters as parcels?

THE POSTMASTER GENERAL (Mr. RAIKES) (Cambridge University)

, in reply, said, the Report of the Departmental Committee was now under consideration, and he was consequently not yet in a position to indicate the course which he might find it desirable to adopt; but he hoped soon to be able to do so. He fully appreciated the importance of giving every facility to the public for the transmission of their correspondence.
