HC Deb 24 July 1888 vol 329 cc325-6
MR. KNATCHBULL-HUGESSEN (Kent, Faversham)

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty, Whether it is true that a still further discharge of shipwrights from Sheerness Dockyard is contemplated; and, if so, how many?

THE FIRST LORD (Lord GEORGE HAMILTON) (Middlesex, Ealing)

We have found that the number of shipwrights at Sheerness is in excess of the wants of the Establishment, and that another class of labour can, with advantage, be substituted for the more highly paid workmen. We are now considering this question; but no decision has as yet been arrived at.
