HC Deb 16 July 1888 vol 328 cc1402-3
MR. HERMON-HODGE (Lancashire, Accrington)

asked the President of the Local Government Board, Whether a borough, which by incorporation of adjoining districts brings its population up to 50,000, will be entitled at any time hereafter to be made a county of itself, and to be placed in the same position as those boroughs which are now included in the Fourth Schedule?

THE SECRETARY (Mr. LONG)(who replied) (Wilts, Devizes)

said: The Local Government Bill contains a provision which would enable the Local Government Board, on application from a borough with a population of not less than 50,000, to issue a Provisional Order constituting the borough a county borough.
