HC Deb 13 July 1888 vol 328 c1242
MR. C. T. DYKE ACLAND (Cornwall, Launceston)

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether he has yet received any reply to his inquiries about the refusal of the Devon Court of Quarter Sessions to investigate the case of Sergeant Allin?

THE SECRETARY OF STATE (Mr. MATTHEWS) (Birmingham, E.)

Yes, Sir; I have made inquiry, and I understand that it is intended to bring this matter again before the Court of Quarter Sessions in October next, and I have reason to believe that an inquiry will then be directed. It is for the magistrates, and not for the Secretary of State, to conduct whatever inquiry may be necessary.
