HC Deb 09 July 1888 vol 328 c739
THE LORD MAYOR OF DUBLIN (Mr. SEXTON) (Belfast, W.)

asked the First Lord of the Treasury, If he will now state whether a City Charter is to be granted to Belfast; and, if so, when it will be issued?

THE FIRST LORD (Mr. W. H. SMITH) (Strand, Westminster)

This Question, which was first brought to the notice of Her Majesty's Government by my hon. Friend the Member for South Belfast (Mr. Johnston), has now been decided; and the Government, finding there are no legal difficulties, will take the necessary steps for the grant of a City Charter.
