HC Deb 17 December 1888 vol 332 cc451-2
MR. CLANCY (Dublin Co., N.)

asked the Postmaster General, Whether he has yet arrived at any decision regarding the claim of the travelling sorters on the Kingstown and Holyhead Service for increased remuneration and for back pay?

THE POSTMASTER GENERAL (Mr. RAIKES) (Cambridge University)

I have to state that instructions have been given for the sorters employed in the Kingstown and Holyhead Packet Service to be paid for Sunday work. These instructions will take effect on and from the 1st of January; but it must be understood that no application can be entertained for back pay, and that I may consider it my duty to revise the trip allowance, which at present appears to be rather high.
