asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether there will be a vacancy in the Inspectorship of Mines for the Eastern Division of Scotland at the end of the year; and, whether a Scotsman will be appointed to this post?

Yes, Sir; there will be a vacancy, and it has been filled by the appointment of the Senior Assistant Inspector. The Secretary of State will be happy to give full consideration to the claims of Scotch candidates for the Assistant Inspectorship which will thus be vacant.
