HC Deb 09 April 1888 vol 324 c713
MR. WALLACE (Edinburgh, E.)

asked the Under Secretary of State for the Colonies, Whether it is the fact that, according to medical certificate duly made, the arduous services of Mr. Gibbons, late District Judge in Jamaica, produced hernia, thus disabling him for the discharge of his duties; and, whether, in the circumstances, the Colonial Office will favourably consider the propriety of granting him a retiring pension?

THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE (Baron HENRY DE WORMS) (Liverpool, East Toxteth)

Her Majesty's Government have no power to grant pensions for services in Jamaica; and if it were not so, the circumstances connected with Mr. Gibbon's retirement would preclude him from receiving a pension.
