HC Deb 09 April 1888 vol 324 cc719-20
MR. BURT (Morpeth)

asked the Secretary of State to the Home Department, Whether he could give the House any information with reference to the serious shaft accident which had lately occurred at a colliery in the neighbourhood of Wigan; and, what stops were being taken to insure a full investigation into the circumstances of the calamity?

THE SECRETARY OF STATE (Mr. MATTHEWS) (Birmingham, E.)

I have asked the Inspector for a full Report of all the circumstances; and when I receive his Report I will consider whether a special inquiry is necessary.
