HC Deb 13 May 1887 vol 314 cc1942-4

Motion made, and Question proposed, That leave be given to bring in a Bill to amend the Law as to Reports of Proceedings in Courts of Law."—(Mr. Finlay.)

MR. CHANCE (Kilkenny, S.)

I beg to move that this debate be now adjourned, I do not think the people who are brought into the Divorce Court should be saved the shame of exposure. The reports in newspapers need not be indecent; but I should be sorry to pre vent a certain amount of publicity being given to the cases brought in the Divorce Court.

Motion made, and Question proposed, "That the Debate be now adjourned." —(Mr. Chance.)

MR. SPEAKER

It is rather irregular to make such a Motion. The hon. Member has not yet seen the Bill.

MR. CHANCE

This is rather a thin House in which to challenge a Division, and therefore I will not press my objection.

Motion, by leave, withdrawn.

Original Question put, and agreed to.

Bill ordered to be brought in by Mr. Finlay, Mr. Egerton Hubbard, Mr. Lockwood, Mr. Samuel Smith, Mr. Bryce, Mr. Robert Reid, and Mr. Asquith.

Bill presented, and read the first time. [Bill 204.]

House adjourned at Two o'clock till Monday next.
