HC Deb 02 May 1887 vol 314 cc538-9
SIR EDWARD WATKIN (Hythe)

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, If he can state what proportion the individual and joint holding (or personal holding) in the public funds bears to the personal holding of Trustees, excluding Government, Saving Banks, and other impersonal trust holdings?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (Mr. GOSCHEN) (St. George's, Hanover Square)

It is not possible to give the information asked for. The Bank of England do not recognize trusts, and have no means of distinguishing between personal holdings and the holdings of Trustees.
