FLYNN (Cork, N.)asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, Whether a young man who holds the position of national school teacher in Ireland is prohibited, by a Rule of the Commissioners of Education, from residing in the house of his father, who may happen to hold a publican's licence; and, if so, whether he will consider the desirability of altering such Regulation?
§ THE PARLIAMENTARY UNDER SECRETARY (Colonel KING-HARMAN) (Kent, Isle of Thanet)(who replied) said: Under a Rule of the Commissioners teachers of National Schools are especially forbidden to keep public-houses, or houses for the sale of spirituous liquors, or to live in any such house. The Irish Government agree with the Commissioners that it would be very undesirable to make any alteration in this Regulation.
