HC Deb 10 March 1887 vol 311 c1754
MR. SEXTON (Belfast, W.)

I wish to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer a Question—of which I have sent him Notice—Whether he is aware that the Patronage Secretary to the Treasury lately conveyed, through the ordinary channel, to Members of this House the information that a Parliamentary vacancy existed in the constituency of East Down; and I wish to ask whether the hon. and gallant Member (Captain Ker) applied to him for the Chiltern Hundreds, or any similar office?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (Mr. GOSCHEN) (St. George's, Hanover Square)

On Monday night I received an application for the Chiltern Hundreds from the hon. and gallant Member for East Down (Captain Ker). Before the warrant was issued I received a request for permission to withdraw the application, and in consequence the Chiltern Hundreds were not granted.
