HC Deb 10 March 1887 vol 311 cc1742-3
MR. A. E. PEASE (York)

asked the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Whether H.M.S. Rifleman has been sent to the Rio del Rey to try and obtain the release of Mr. H. H. Johnston, Her Britannic Majesty's Vice Consul for the territories under the Protectorate of Germany in the district of the Cameroons; and, whether Mr. Johnston's seizure took place within the territory of the German Protectorate?

THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE (Sir JAMES FERGUSSON) (Manchester, N.E.)

Consul Hewitt has proceeded on board a man-of-war to the Rio del Rey; but it is very uncertain what has befallen Mr. Johnston.
