HC Deb 10 June 1887 vol 315 c1581
MR. C. H. WILSON (Hull, W.)

asked the Secretary to the Admiralty, Whether they have received any explanation of the explosion on board H.M.S. Rupert, at Hull, during hand-charge practice, resulting in the death of one man and injury to several others?

THE SECRETARY (Mr. FORWOOD) (Lancashire, Ormskirk)

An explanation has been received from the captain of Her Majesty's ship Rupert reporting that the usual precautions were observed at practice; but pending the further inquiry to be held, when the injured men are able to give evidence, the absolute cause of the accident cannot yet be stated.
