HC Deb 31 January 1887 vol 310 cc272-3
COLONEL HAMILTON (Southwark, Rotherhithe)

asked the Secretary of State for War, Whether the pay of the non-commissioned officers and men of the batteries of Royal Horse Artillery, ordered to be converted into batteries of Field Artillery, is to be reduced from the date of conversion; and, if so, whether any compensation will be given to them?

THE SECRETARY OF STATE (Mr. E. STANHOPE) (Lincolnshire, Horncastle)

The pay of the non-commis- sioned officers and men referred to will be reduced to that of the Field Artillery from the 1st of April. Compensation will not be given to them; but as opportunities offer those who may be recommended for it will be re-posted to the Horse Artillery. I may add that men for the Royal Artillery are enlisted for the corps generally, and not for service in any particular branch of it.
