HC Deb 25 February 1887 vol 311 c568
MR. J. F. X. O'BRIEN (Mayo, S.)

asked the Secretary to the Treasury, If, as he has promised that the Board of Works shall fix a Schedule of Tolls to be levied on the Belmullet Pier, for its maintenance, he will direct the Board to confer with the Inspectors of Fisheries and the principal merchants in Belmullet as to the proper tolls to be levied; and, if the Board of Works will give an opportunity for anyone interested in the matter to be heard at a meeting in Belmullet, before the Schedule of Tolls be finally adopted?

THE SECRETARY (Mr. JACKSON) (Leeds, N.)

All harbour tolls being levied, collected, and applied under the direction of the Grand Jury, the latter have invariably moved first in having the scale of tolls fixed by the Board of Works, with the approval of the Treasury. The Board of Works will give every consideration to any representation placed before them, either by the Fishery Inspectors or any person of the district.
