HC Deb 25 February 1887 vol 311 c579
MR. FENWICK (Northumberland, Wansbeck)

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether he can give the House any information respecting the recent evictions at Burradon Colliery, in the county of Northumberland; and, whether it is true that the workmen evicted offered to pay rent for the houses which they occupied, and their offer was rejected?

THE SECRETARY OF STATE (Mr. MATTHEWS) (Birmingham, E.)

No, Sir; I have no information respecting these evictions, and I do not see that it is a matter in which the Secretary of State can interfere. I understand that the colliery in question has ceased to work some time since.
