HC Deb 22 February 1887 vol 311 c299

asked the Secretary of State for War, Whether he can now furnish the House with the names of the officials who passed the bad cutlasses for the Navy, with a view to proper steps being taken in the matter?

THE SECRETARY OF STATE (Mr. E. STANHOPE) (Lincolnshire, Horncastle)

No, Sir. In accordance with what I believe to be the general wish, an independent Committee has been appointed to make inquiry into this subject; and it would be improper on my part to anticipate the decision of those who are conducting that inquiry by expressing any opinion of my own.
