HC Deb 21 February 1887 vol 311 cc176-7
MR. CONWAY (Leitrim, N.)

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, Whether the Government had received from the Prisons' Board (Ireland) a Report recommending the closing of Richmond Prison, and the transfer of the prisoners therefrom to Mountjoy Prison; and, whether the Government will afford Members an opportunity for the examination of such Report by laying it upon the Table of the House prior to its adoption?

THE CHIEF SECRETARY (Sir MICHAEL HICKS-BEACH) (Bristol, W.)

The Government have received the Report alluded to, and it is now under consideration. The recommendation is made in furtherance of the views of the Royal Commission, which were in favour of the concentration of the Dublin prisons. There is no intention of laying the Report on the Table, as it is not of a character that is usually so dealt with.
