asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether the firm of Messieurs Latimer Clark, Muirhead, and Co., Limited, who have been granted a Government contract for the supply of loaded cartridges, have obtained a licence under the Explosives Act; and, if so, where the licensed area is situated, and the date of the licence?

(who replied) said: No licence under the Explosives Act has been granted to, or applied for, by the firm mentioned in the hon. Member's Question. The firm, have, however, today effected with the Metropolitan Board of Works a registration of their premises at Northumberland Walk, Millwall, under Sections 21 and 39 of the Act of 1875. This registration, and the terms of sections 46 and the Order in Council there under, empower them to—(1) store a maximum quantity of 200lb. of powder; (2) load safety cartridges; (3) keep an additional 500lb. of explosives contained in safety cartridges, equivalent to about 41,000 rounds of Martini ammunition.
