HC Deb 03 February 1887 vol 310 c551
VISCOUNT BARING (Bedfordshire, Biggleswade)

asked the Secretary of State for War, If it is the intention of the War Office to issue kit bags, as supplied to the Infantry of the Line, to those Militia Battalions that are equipped with valises, and which annually train away from their head-quarters?

THE SECRETARY OF STATE (Mr. E. STANHOPE) (Lincolnshire, Horncastle)

The Question of issuing kit bags to the Militia is under consideration. Opinions on the subject are somewhat conflicting; and as the expenditure involved is considerable, both as regards initial issue and annual maintenance, no decision has yet been arrived at.
