JORDAN (Clare, W.)asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, If the Local Government Board have yet arrived at any decision in relation to the dispute between them and the Board of Guardians of the Ennistymon Union, County Clare, arising out of their appointment to the Protestant Episcopal chaplaincy to the workhouse?
§ THE CHIEF SECRETARY (Mr. A. J. BALFOUR) (Manchester, E.), in reply, said, the Local Government Board fixed the salary of the Protestant chaplain to the workhouse at £5 a-year, and the proposal of the Guardians was that he should be paid by fee; but the Local Government Board found that they could not legally sanction such an arrangement.
