HC Deb 29 April 1887 vol 314 cc355-6
MR. P. M'DONALD (Sligo, N.)

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, If it is a fact that there is no supply of water through the greater part of Rathmines township except for a few hours in the morning; whether the new waterworks, which were to have been finished a year ago, are still far from completion; and, whether, in consequence, he will, as President of the Local Government Board, order stops to be taken to provide a proper supply of water to the township?

THE PARLIAMENTARY UNDER SECRETARY (Colonel KING-HARMAN) (Kent, Isle of Thanet)

(who replied) said: I am informed that an ample supply of the present water is given to the township, the quantity considerably exceeding 40 gallons per head per diem of the population. It is expected that the works will be completed this year, while the extended statutable period does not expire until towards the end of the following year. The Local Government Board do not, therefore, consider that there is any necessity for their interference in the matter.
