§ MR. THORBURN (Peebles and Selkirk)asked the Lord Advocate, Whether Her Majesty's Government will take steps to secure certain holidays for the agricultural population in Scotland, at all events equivalent in number to those lost to them by the abolition rapidly taking place of fast days and fair days, hitherto hold as non-working days or holidays?
§ THE LORD ADVOCATE (Mr. J. H. A. MACDONALD) (Edinburgh and St. Andrew's Universities)Her Majesty's Government cannot pledge itself to take steps to secure holidays for the agricultural population of Scotland. Such matters must be regulated by local requirements and circumstances, and would be more properly dealt with by Local Boards, which it is hoped may soon be established.
