HC Deb 18 April 1887 vol 313 c1115
MR. O'HANLON (Cavan, E.)

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, Whether, owing to the poverty of tenant farmers in Great Britain and Ireland, arising oat of high rents, be will see his way to recommend that all goods upon which duty is chargeable be in future given free to all workhouses?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (Mr. GOSCHEN) (St. George's, Hanover Square)

I cannot hold out any hope that effect will be given to the suggestion.
