HC Deb 15 April 1887 vol 313 cc992-3
MR. JOHNSTON(for Colonel SAUNDERSON) (Armagh, N.)

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, Whether the attention of the Government has been called to the destruction of fish fry on Lough Neagh; and, if so, whether the Government will take steps to prevent the injury to the Lough Neagh fishing-continuing?

THE CHIEF SECRETARY (Mr. A. J. BALFOUR) (Manchester, E.)

The attention of the Inspectors of Irish Fisheries has been recently called to the matter, and they communicated with the local conservators, who are responsible for the management of the fisheries of the district, and also with the lessees of the Honourable the Irish Society's fisheries on the Bann. The Government, however, as the hon. Gentleman is aware, has no power to coerce the parties in this matter.
