HC Deb 15 April 1887 vol 313 cc998-9
MR. O'HANLON (Cavan, E.)

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, Whether, in view of the poverty of the tenant farmers and other taxpayers in many parts of Ireland, he will recommend that all goods upon which duty is chargeable be in future given free to Irish workhouses?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (Mr. GOSCHEN) (St. George's, Hanover Square)

The suggestion, I am afraid, is quite impracticable.
