HC Deb 14 April 1887 vol 313 c882
MR. O'HANLON (Cavan, E.)

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, Whether, in view of the poverty of the tenant farmers and other taxpayers in many parts of Ireland, he will recommend that all goods upon which duty is chargeable be in future given free to Irish workhouses?

THE CHIEF SECRETARY (Mr. A. J. BALFOUR) (Manchester, E.)

This is a Question which should, I apprehend, be directed to the Chancellor of the Exchequer; and though I have not consulted with him on the subject, I can conceive there can be very little doubt as to the answer he will give.

MR. O'HANLON

I will put the Question direct to the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
