§ MR. GILLIAT (Clapham)asked the President of the Local Government Board, If he can state why the Local Government Board have refused to divide the parish of Clapham into wards for the election of Guardians of the Poor, as requested by the letters to that Board from the representative Vestry of Clapham?
§ THE PRESIDENT (Mr. RITCHIE) (Tower Hamlets, St. George's), in reply, said that representations had from time 682 to time been made to the Local Government Board by the elected Vestry of Clapham, in favour of the division of the parish into wards, for the election of Guardians. There is, however, no case in London in which a parish with a population not exceeding that of Clapham has been so divided. In deciding not to comply with the request I have adhered to the views of my three Predecessors in the Office of President of the Board.
