ROWLANDS (Finsbury, E.)asked the President of the Local Go- 1262 vernment Board, Whether changes have been recently made in the composition of the Metropolitan Asylums Board; and, if so, whether he can state why such changes were made, and what is the present number of the Board, and how many are nominated members?
THE PRESIDENT (Mr. RITCHIE) (St. George's) Tower Hamlets,The Board have recently increased the number of elected members of the Metropolitan Asylums Board by nine. The change has been made in consequence of the great alterations which have occurred in the population and rateable value of the Unions and parishes in the Metropolis since the number of members was fixed in 1871, and the large additional duties which the Managers have now to undertake as compared with those which devolved on them at that time. The present number of elected Managers is 54, and of nominated Managers 15.
