HC Deb 21 September 1886 vol 309 c1090
CAPTAIN PENTON (Finsbury, Central)

asked the Secretary to the Board of Trade, Whether he will undertake, on behalf of Her Majesty's Government, during the Recess, to consider the question of hall-marking, with a view, as soon as the state of public business will permit, to legislation of such a character as will remove the grievances from which the watch-case makers complain that they are suffering?

THE SECRETARY (Baron HENRY DE WORMS) (Liverpool, East Toxteth)

I fear I am unable to give any undertaking to the hon. and gallant Member with regard to legislation on the subject of hall-marking. All that I can at present say is that the question shall receive the consideration of the Board of Trade during the Recess.
