§ MR. AGG-GARDNER (Cheltenham)asked the Secretary of State for War, Whether, as a large number of Volunteers are desirous of joining the 1st Gloucestershire (Western Counties) Engineers' Corps, but are prevented by reason of the Regiment having attained its regulation strength, he will sanction the formation of two additional com- 28 panies, or the enrolment of supernumeraries?
THE SECRETARY OF STATE (Mr. CAMPBELL-BANNERMAN) (&c.) Stirling,The corps in question has already 10 companies, and the addition of a submarine company at Cardiff has been sanctioned. This is considered by the Military Authorities to be as large for administrative purposes as any Volunteer corps should be. The enrolment of supernumeraries is contrary to regulation.
