EDMUND ROBERTSON (Dundee)asked the Secretary for Scotland, Whether his attention has been called to the fact that a bequest, now amounting to more than £25,000, left many years ago by the late Sir David Baxter, to maintain a Mechanics' Institute in Dundee, has not yet been applied to that purpose, although such an Institute is greatly needed; and, whether he can do anything to induce the Trustees to apply the money forthwith to the purposes for which it was intended?

HawickI know something about Sir David Baxter's bequest for a Mechanics' Institute in Dundee; in fact, I have in my possession a most interesting Report addressed to his Trustees, who have unlimited powers in the matter, by gentlemen whom they several months ago requested to advise them and draw up a scheme. The Report is confidential, but, no doubt, will be published soon.
