HC Deb 04 March 1886 vol 302 cc1913-4
MR. EVELYN

asked the President of the Local Government Board, Whether, in view of the great number of the unemployed among our own people, it is the intention of Her Majesty's Government to introduce any measure for the purpose of restricting or regulating the immigration of indigent Foreigners into the United Kingdom?

MR. DAWSON

asked, Whether there was any means of ascertaining, in regard to persons coming into this country, whether they were, or were not, British subjects; and, whether any inquiry could be made into the means they possessed?

THE SECRETARY (Mr. JESSE COLLINGS),

in reply, said he must ask for Notice of the latter Question; and, with regard to the former, it was not the intention of the Government.
