HC Deb 30 August 1886 vol 308 c775
MR. GOURLEY (Sunderland)

asked the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, If he will be good enough to inform the House the nature of the negotiations in which Her Majesty's Government are engaged with a view to a settlement of the United States and Canadian fishery disputes; and, whether he can, before the rising of Parliament, place upon the Table of the House the Correspondence of the several Governments interested?

THE UNDER SECRETARY or STATE (Sir JAMES FERGUSSON) (Manchester, N.E.)

In addition to the negotiations which are going on in America, the Secretary of State is in personal as well as in official communication with the United States Minister. It would be unsatisfactory and undesirable to present to Parliament Correspondence which is in progress.
