HC Deb 23 August 1886 vol 308 c263
MR. J. HOWARD (Middlesex, Tottenham)

asked the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, What steps have been recently taken by Her Majesty's Government to represent the claims of the Ecuador Land Company against the Government of the Republic of Ecuador?

THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE (Sir JAMES FERGUSSON) (Manchester, N.E.)

The claims of the Company have been repeatedly pressed by Her Majesty's Minister at Quito on the Ecuadorian Government, who have promised that the matter would be inquired into and considered by the Council of State; but the disturbed state of the country and financial difficulties appear to have prevented any settlement being arrived at. Instructions will be sent to Her Majesty's Minister to report what is being done in the matter, and to endeavour to obtain a settlement.
