HC Deb 12 April 1886 vol 304 cc1303-4
MR. A. J. BALFOUR(for Viscount CRANBOURNE) (Manchester, E.)

asked the Secretary to the Treasury, If the regulation laid down by the late Postmaster General is still in force, by which Post Office officers are prohibited from taking any active part in the preparations for, or conduct of, Municipal and Parliamentary Elections?

THE SECRETARY TO THE TREASURY (Mr. HENRY H. FOWLER) (Wolverhampton, E.)

In reply to the right hon. Gentleman, I have to state that there is no Regulation prohibiting Post Office servants from taking part in parochial or municipal elections. As regards Parliamentary elections, the Regulation of the late Postmaster General is still in force.
